Why Internet Marketing Products Suck

I have been earning some money online, for a long time now. I think I made my first website over 10 years ago and ever since then I have manged to earn a little something online. As I mentioned in the Q&A I did with myself I don’t earn huge money online but it is enough to live on.

However, for a long time I kept spending some of my money on various get rich quick Internet marketing miracles. I loved the promises of earning tons of money without any real work. Turns out the only people who got rich were the ones selling the ebooks, software etc. that I was buying.

My Conclusion: Internet Marketing Products Suck

This is true for nearly every product that gets released on the market these days. For every truly great product that can honestly help people looking to start an Internet business (like Site Build It), there are probably thousands of worthless or even pure scam alternatives.

So, I will say it again Internet marketing products suck. Moreover, you have to be really careful about any so-called “reviews” you read about any new product. The fact is that most of them are written by people who want you to buy it, so they can earn their affiliate commission. Worse still, most of them have probably not even seen or tried the product themselves.

For example, take the review I did of Jermaine Griggs’ Nitty Gritty Marketing back in October. If you go to Google and do a search today you will find roughly 230,000 results when you search for ‘Nitty Gritty Marketing Review.’ I guarantee you virtually all the reviews will be positive. Now it could be great product or there could be other things at work.

For about a week and half before it was released it was the only thing anybody in the Internet Marketing community was talking about. Yet, within days of it being released nobody was talking about it anymore. A little suspicious I think?

The Blog Is Reborn – Starting An Internet Business 2.0

Well I know it has been a few months since I made my last post. I do apologize, but the fact is that I am extremely lazy when comes to doing almost anything. I must be among the world’s greatest procrastinators.

One of my goals for 2008 is to try and be better about all this but as you can see it is not off to a great start. Moreover, right now this blog is not a huge priority for me because I am working on a much bigger project.

Unfortunately, I don’t want to reveal what it is now or in the future. The reason being that I don’t need any competition in the niche I am targeting.

In fact, my main reason for restarting this blog is to try and keep myself motivated and focused on my big project. I figure that if I get into the habit of posting about how it is coming along, that this will in turn encourage me to keep at it (see laziness above).

This also means that the new version of the blog will be more focused on me personally and on how my project is going and less to do with the how to start your own business online. If you are still interested in that please read my previous posts since the information there is still good and relevant.

I intend to post the occasional review about upcoming Internet marketing products, but quite frankly I can tell you now that 99% of them are a waste of money. In a future post I will explain exactly what tools I am using to achieve my results and you can take it or leave it.

I hope you enjoy the new direction this blog takes but to be honest I am not too bothered if you aren’t. I hope it will prove to be an inspiration but I am unsure if my new project will be a success or failure, only time will tell.

My one piece of advice from all this is not to follow my example. Don’t procrastinate, don’t put things off until tomorrow that you could do today. If my new project succeeds it will be in spite of my huge ability to procrastinate not because of it.

Why Google AdWords Dominates Pay Per Click Advertising And Microsoft Doesn’t

Today’s post is a bit more of a personal rant than Internet business information. So, please feel free to skip it if you aren’t interested, you won’t really miss much.

One of the marketing methods I use to promote websites is pay per click advertising. Google dominates this market, with something around 60-70% market share. This has always somewhat puzzled me, since I often find I have better ROI (Return on Investment) from other pay per click programs.

However, today I think I fully understand why Google is the 800 lbs gorilla of pay per click. This morning, I was updating some ads in my Microsoft Adcenter account. What would have taken me about 5 minutes to do in Google ended up taking me almost an hour to do in Microsoft. This was mainly due to their incredibly slow and awkward interface, which is far less user friendly than its rival at Google.

Now it is no secret that Microsoft has invested billions trying to catch up to Google in the pay per click advertising arena. Nevertheless, I think they have a very long way to go. The only reason I continually put up up with it, is because I know that for most of my listings, Microsoft is extremely profitable. On the other hand, if I was just starting out with pay per click advertising I don’t think I would bother. It just takes too long!

Microsoft, please make your Adcenter easier and faster to use. I can’t keep wasting hours updating my ads.

On a completely unrelated note I came across a great site called Internet Marketing Sucks. It is a great satire of the hype surrounding Internet marketing products. I hope you enjoy.

Next time we’ll return to our regular format.
